Eastbourne bus service diverted due to 'poor road conditions'

An Eastbourne bus service has been diverted due to ‘poor road conditions’.

Stagecoach said its services have started diverting away from Devonshire Place due to ‘poor road conditions which have caused damage to our vehicles’.

The diversion affects journeys towards the town centre.

A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “Our buses in Eastbourne suffer damage resulting from road conditions which can affect our ability to keep them on the road.

“We don’t take the decision to divert lightly, but we need to protect our buses, our customers and our employees.

“We are working closely with local authorities to resolve the situation and restore service as quickly and safely as possible.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers for their patience.”

East Sussex Highways said improvements to the road are scheduled for the summer.

“We are aware of the deterioration of the road along Devonshire Place and since the beginning of the year we have carried out several pothole repairs,” an East Sussex Highways spokesperson said.

"We prioritise our repairs based on the size and location of the pothole, among other criteria, and details about when and how we carry out these repairs can be found on our website.

"Further improvements to the road are due to start in the summer.”
