Major delays after collisions on M23 and M25
Drivers heading into and out of Sussex are facing significant delays on Friday evening (June 12), following collisions on both the M23 and M25.
According to the AA Traffic News, there is disruption on the M25 anticlockwise, at Junction 6 for the A22 at Godstone, where all lanes were temporarily stopped following a crash. Queueing traffic has built up on the approach, with congestion stretching back to Junction 7 for the M23.
Motorists travelling anticlockwise on the motorway are experiencing severe delays of around 13 minutes between Junction 8 at Reigate and Junction 6 at Godstone, with average speeds falling to around ten mph.
Meanwhile, a collision on the M23 northbound – between Junction 9 for Gatwick Airport and Junction 8 at the M25 interchange – has led to lane closures and lengthy queues. Two lanes were initially closed following the collision, although reports later indicated one lane remained shut as traffic continued to build.

Delays are increasing in both directions on the M23, with northbound traffic in Surrey averaging around 15mph and southbound traffic in West Sussex slowing to around 10mph.
Elsewhere, an obstruction on the A22 Eastbourne Road northbound – at the B2029 Ray Lane junction, near Lingfield – is partially blocking the carriageway. Queueing traffic has been reported in the area as motorists negotiate the obstruction.
Drivers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly on routes linking Sussex with the M23 and M25, where disruption is expected to continue through the evening.
