Man hit by train in Portsmouth dies of his injuries

A man hit by a train near Portsmouth Harbour this morning has died in hospital from his injuries.

British Transport Police said the incident involved a man in his 50s between Portsmouth Harbour and Fratton station.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 5am this morning, Friday, September 23.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man was taken to Southampton General Hospital for urgent treatment.

British Transport Police confirmed he later died.

Trains were disrupted throughout the morning, with lines re-opening after 9am.
