Overnight closures and speed restrictions planned for A27 between Hampshire and West Sussex

Motorists who travel along the A27 between Warblington and Fishbourne are being warned to expect significant disruption – as National Highways prepares to carry out a series of roadworks.

The works, which are set to begin on April 24, will introduce a range of temporary traffic restrictions along the busy stretch of road spanning parts of Hampshire and West Sussex.

As part of the scheme, both carriageways of the A27 between the Warblington Interchange and Fishbourne Roundabout will be subject to overnight closures. Roads leading to and from this section will also be affected during closure periods.

In addition, all lay-bys along this stretch will be closed around the clock while the works are ongoing.

A reduced speed limit of 50mph will also be enforced 24 hours a day on sections of the route in both directions. This will apply to parts of the eastbound carriageway between Brockhampton Road and Mill Road, and on the westbound carriageway between Broad Road and Mill Road.

National Highways said the restrictions are necessary to ensure the safety of both road users and workers while a range of improvements are carried out. These include barrier replacements, vegetation clearance, drainage work, new signage installation, and lighting repairs.

The project will not last longer than 18 months.

During overnight closures, traffic will be diverted via the A259 and local authority roads, with clearly signed diversion routes in place.

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time when travelling through the area.
