Oxted and Uckfield train line closed due to second incident - two days after previous closure

A train line in East Sussex is blocked due to an incident this morning (Monday, August 31), a train operator has said.

Southern said disruption is expected until later in the day.

Replacement bus services have been drafted in to ferry passengers, Southern said.

A spokesperson said: “A fault with the signalling system between Uckfield and Oxted means that trains are unable to run between these stations and will be cancelled, revised or diverted to start / terminate at East Grinstead. Disruption is expected until 8pm.

“Southern services that normally serve Uckfield will not do so. Trains are likely to be cancelled, or may be diverted to East Grinstead instead. If you're travelling this morning, you will need to take an alternative route.

“The following stations will have no Southern service until further notice: Uckfield, Buxted, Crowborough, Eridge, Ashurst, Cowden, Hever, Edenbridge Town.

“You should leave at least 45 minutes extra to complete your journey. For the latest information, you should listen to announcements, check station screens, and consult journey planners.

“Replacement buses have been requested to run between Uckfield and Oxted, in place of trains. When confirmed, these will be advertised on journey planners and station information screens.

“Buses from Uckfield towards Oxted will depart Uckfield at xx:33. Buses from Oxted towards Uckfield will depart Oxted at xx:36.

“Your ticket will be accepted on Southeastern services via Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge. You can connect with these services using Brighton & Hove Buses 29, or using Southern services from Edenbridge stations.

“Alternatively, you can travel on Southern services from Edenbridge to Redhill, where you can connect with Southern and Thameslink services to London.

“Additionally, you can travel on alternative Southern or Thameslink services from East Grinstead, or stations on the Brighton Main Line, such as Gatwick Airport or Haywards Heath.

“Finally, if you are travelling on a train to a different London Terminal than your intended destination, you can use London Underground to help you reach your destination in the London area.”

Southern posted a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) just after 3pm to say rail replacement bus services would run into the late evening.

It said: “Repairs are expected to take longer than usual and we expect this to impact services until later this evening. Rail replacement buses are continuing to run between Oxted and Uckfield until 8pm.”

The same line was closed for part of the day on Saturday (August 29) due to a safety inspection of the track, Southern said.

Trains were unable to run between Crowborough and Uckfield.
