Road linking two West Sussex villages could be closed for up to four months

A road linking two West Sussex villages will have to be closed for up to four months while the gas mains are replaced.

West Sussex County Council has made an order to temporarily close two roads along the B2132 in Yapton.

The council said these road closures are needed to allow gas mains to be replaced in safety.

Yapton Road and Bilsham Road will be closed from the A259 Comet Corner northwards to Burndell Road from January 5, 2026, to May 15, 2026.

Yapton Road will also be closed from the A259 Comet Corner southwards to Silver Birch Drive from April 20, 2026, to June 5, 2026.

The order will come into effect on January 5, 2026, and may remain in force for up to 18 months, or until the proposed works are completed, whichever is earlier.

Alternative routes will be indicated on site and access to properties on the affected length of road will be maintained at all times.

Any queries about the effect of the Order on traffic using the highway should be directed to the West Sussex County Council contact centre, telephone 01243 642105.
