Mr Smith hopes to raise more than £2,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Trust in memory of his sister Kathleen.

“None of us have done anything on this scale before but we are all doing it in memory of my sister, who sadly lost her battle with multiple sclerosis In the autumn,” he explained.

He and 20 friends will be trekking non stop around the coastal path on July 4 and 5.

Mr Smith said: “We will be starting at the King Ludd pub in Ryde on the Saturday at 9am and plan to finish some 33 hours later back in Ryde for a well-earned beer.

“We plan to walk the entire 68-mile coastal path, only stopping for meals, water stops and when nature calls.

“We will be carrying all the gear we need on our backs, although we will have a back-up vehicle with us most of the time.”

The trekkers will be collecting money en route, as well as raising awareness of multiple sclerosis. They have been granted both street and house-to-house collectors permits, which they hope will help boost their final total.

Mr Smith said: “The hardest part I feel will be walking through the night and the dark but the whole team is made up of some fantastic people with great senses of humour, so that will keep us all going.”

Mr Smith has been raising money for the trust for some time, taking on many challenges. “I know Kathleen was proud of all of my fundraising efforts in the past and now I am keeping her name alive in all of my future challenges,” he added.
