Trophies for ‘baby biker’ in 
national champs

Back in July, two-year-old Ned Jones rode his way to bronze at the 2013 Strider British Balance Bike Championships qualifying event at the Cyclopark in Gravesend.

The championships brought together 70 children aged between 18 months and five-years-old to ride and race no-pedal balance bikes over one of the UK’s best BMX tracks.

In September the young cycling star and his family travelled to Manchester for the finals, with Ned giving a repeat of the stellar performance he turned in during the Kent qualifiers.

Ned’s mum, Olivia Jones, said: “He qualified once again and won every race, taking first place.

“He then went on in the afternoon to compete in the grand finals, competing against all other finalists from around the country, once again to win every race apart from one where he fell off.

“But he still managed to come second place in the quarter finals.”

Ned came away with two trophies, one for being the fastest qualifier in Manchester and the other for being the fastest rider in the UK for his age.

He also claimed the title of the 2013 National Champion for the two-year-old age group in the Strider British Balance Bike Championships.

Olivia added: “We are really proud of him.”
