TV DIY men to the rescue

TELEVISION presenter Nick Knowles has been carrying out a mission of mercy for a Lewes household.

With the help of the BBC's DIY SOS team, he accepted a challenge to transform a house in Queens Road which was in the proces of a loft conversion when owner Matt Miles, 35, died of a heart attack earlier this year.

His wife Linda and children Thomas, 10, Jessica, nine, and Harry, six, were left without a husband and father and with no bedrooms.

A friend who was aware that the family had been sleeping in the living room, contacted Nick who, with his team, swung into action on Monday.

They were due to finish yesterday (Thursday).

Said Nick: 'To go through what they have been through over the last few months has inspired us to get as much as possible done.

'We will do our best.

'The family have been sleeping in the living room for the last few months and the upper part of the house has been in a desperate state.

'It is one of the biggest jobs we have done in so short a time.'
