Vickesh Patel, 25, of Neville Close, Crawley, pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine and to possessing cannabis, and admitted breaching a suspended sentence, was given a three month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months. A three month curfew was added to his previous sentence.

Another defendant - Marlon Brown, 25, of North Mead, Crawley - is still waiting to be sentenced.

Prosecutor Philip McGhee told the court that Patel and Brown were arrested in Crawley on February 25 last year and found to have drugs on them.

A third man - Lee - got away but was arrested next day, together with Burnett.

Mr McGhee said Lee had ‘a significant quantity of cash and drugs’ with him.

Police seized the cash - nearly £50,000 - as suspected proceeds of crime.

The court heard that Lee and Burnett later tried to deceive the police into thinking the cash had been left there by an ex-boyfriend of Burnett’s.

In March that year, she contacted police and claimed that the ex- had been to her house and threatened and assaulted her, saying that he wanted the money back.
