CHURCH SERVICE: At 9.30am this Sunday (being the first of the month) there will be Sung Family Eucharist in St Mary's Church, followed by refreshments and a social get-together in the Hall.

BEAUCHAMPS OPEN GARDEN: Between 2 and 5pm this Sunday afternoon Matty and I look forward to welcoming you to our garden, open again for the National Gardens Scheme (after a year’s break last year). Whatever the weather, there will be plenty to see and enjoy at this lovely time of year, teas with cakes baked and served by the Friends of St Mary’s and a stall well stocked with Matty’s special plants. Entry is £4.50, children free, all net proceeds to be donated to a group of well known medical charities (which last year received a total of very nearly £2.5 million from the National Gardens Scheme).

MESSY CHURCH: For a change this month, on Tuesday afternoon there will be a visit to Peter Spencer’s orchard at Kiln Cottage, Pottery Lane, Brede, meeting there at 4pm and finishing soon after 5pm. What a nice invitation!

MOBILE LIBRARY: On Wednesday the library is due to visit the Hall between 11.15am and 11.45am (not at the later time advertised in this month’s Parish Magazine). We should make the most of this wonderful facility while we can!

PROPOSED ELECTORAL BOUNDARY CHANGE: As you may have read in this column two weeks ago, it’s been proposed that in future County Council elections Udimore will be transferred from the Brede Valley and Marsham ward, to the Rother North ward (joining Robertsbridge, Northiam, Beckley and Peasmarsh, villages with which we have much less in common than with Brede). Our Parish Councillors are against this proposal and have asked that as many of us as possible should join them in writing letters of objection to the Boundary Commission. You may have read more about this in Jack Duggan’s article on page 3 of last week’s Observer. The more letters the Commission receives from Udimore residents, the more likely it is that this unsatisfactory proposal will be dropped. The address to write to is: Local Government Boundary Commission for England, 14th Floor, Millbank Tower, Millbank, London SW1P 4QP. We don’t have long: the closing date for objections is June 16.
