Udimore

Wildlife Talk: In the Hall last Friday evening Edward Mayer gave a lively and instructive talk on swifts to members of Udimore Wildlife Club. As an active member of the international group Swift Conservation, Edward is extremely well informed about his subject, which he spoke about with infectious enthusiasm: we can all, he said, play our part in helping to stop the recent worrying decline in the numbers of swifts, and of swallows, house martins and sand martins. For positive things we can do, it’s well worth having a look at his website www.swift-conservation.org.uk

Church Services: This Sunday there will be no celebration of Holy Communion at 8am. Sung Family Eucharist will be at 11.15am, followed by refreshments in the Hall.

Mobile Library: Between 11.45am and 12.15pm on Wednesday (January 21) the Mobile Library will be at the Hall. This is the library’s first visit under the new arrangement, discontinuing its previous visits to Lower Cross Cottages, and reducing its frequency from once a fortnight to once in three weeks. It’s still a wonderful asset, which we should support as much as we possibly can, if we want to keep it!

Parish Council Meeting: That evening (Wednesday) the bimonthly Parish Council Meeting will be in the Hall, starting at 6.30pm. Please go along if you can, a good way of keeping in touch with what’s going on in the village.

Winter Lunch Party: If you don’t already have tickets for the lunch at 12.30pm on Thursday, January 22, and would like to come (excellent value for a two-course hot meal @£8.50), please get in touch with Liz turgoose (01424 882657) or Judy Edwards (01424 882222) as soon as possible, to find out if you can be fitted in.

Quiz Night: Our annual winter Quiz Night will be held in the Hall on Saturday evening, February 7, starting at 6.45pm. All will be welcome, both regular quizzers and newcomers, to this highly enjoyable event. The ticket price of £10 includes a fish and chips supper (bring your own drinks) and the chance to win one of the joints of lamb to be kindly donated by Frank and Celia Langrish. This will be a fundraising event to help meet the running costs of the Hall. To book tickets (or a table) please ring Frank (our resourceful quizmaster) as soon as possible on 01424 882250.
