This Sunday in St Mary’s Church the services will be: Holy Communion at 8am, and the monthly Family Service for All at 11.15am (followed by refreshments and a social get-together in the Community Hall).

On Wednesday afternoon (July 16) an interesting Northiam garden will be opening again for the National Gardens Scheme, between 2 and 5pm. Linda and Michael Belton’s South Grange offers a wide range of interest, including grasses, herbaceous perennials, shrubs, trees, raised beds, a wildlife pond and a vegetable plot. Their orchard has meadow flowers, and there is also a fruit cage with willow windbreak, a rose arbour, a polytunnel and an area of wild woodland. Of special interest at this time of relative drought is their ingenious system of rainwater collection and storage. There will be teas for sale, also home-propagated plants. All this for a modest £3.50, children free. South Grange is in Quickbourne Lane, reached by turning right onto Beale’s Lane just past the turn-off for Great Dixter.

Until the end of September, we still have the benefit of two fortnightly mobile library service visits, both at Lower Cross and at the Hall, so do go on making the most of them while they continue! Next Friday, July 18, the times are 10.15 - 10.40am at Lower Cross, and 10.55 - 11.15am at the Hall. From October onwards we may well be down to one three-weekly visit, at the Hall only.
