Udimore

Richard Holmes, Beauchamps

The organizers are delighted to announce that the Christmas Fayre in St Mary’s Community Hall on November 30 raised no less than £1200 for church funds, considerably more than this event has ever raised before. Well done, everyone concerned!

There was another important event nearby that same day. With the kind permission of Richard Merricks, Joan Crouch and her family planted a tree on the cricket ground in memory of Dennis. They had chosen an Acer platanoides “Crimson King”, a splendid form of Norway maple, with rich purple-coloured leaves right through the season, not just in autumn. Dennis loved cricket, played for Udimore for some 46 years and then went on to help looking after the cricket ground. Visible from the Hall, the tree should stand as a fitting memorial to Dennis Crouch for many years to come.

At 7pm tomorrow (Saturday) in St Thomas’ Church Winchelsea, Winchelsea Singers, conducted by Duncan Reid, present their annual Carol Concert, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice. The programme, for both choir and audience, will include many well-known carols, others less well-known and seasonal readings. Seasonal refreshments are included in the ticket price of £10, at the door.

The morning service in St Mary’ s Udimore this Sunday is the Family Eucharist, starting at 11.15am.

I’ve been unable to discover if carols are to be sung in either of our pubs this year, but at 8pm on Monday (December 16) in the Red Lion, opposite Brede Church, there will be a carol-singing evening, to which we Udimore people are cordially invited.

If you have any notices or reports for inclusion in Udimore Village Voice on either December 27 or January 3, please would you let me have them by Thursday evening, December 19, 8pm at the very latest ( [email protected] or 01797 223055). Sorry if this is rushing you a bit, but it will allow our hardworking Village Voice editor a decent Christmas break with his family, after getting both editions laid out in advance.
