Church services in St Mary’s this Sunday are the celebration of Holy Communion at 8am and Evening Prayer at 6pm.

Next Friday (September 27) Gill Rothery will be hoping for a really good turnout for the big annual Macmillan Coffee Morning - a Bring and Buy party. It’s in St Mary’s Community Hall, from 10am till noon, but please try to come as early as you can. Another highly successful result depends on lots of you bringing along lots of donations for sale: home baked (and bottled), home made and home grown. It would make life easier for Gill’s team of helpers if you could label everything (where possible) and price it. Cakes, buns, scones, biscuits, marmalade, jam, pickles, chutney, handcrafts (of all sorts) and home grown fruit and vegetables all sell well on these occasions, a perfect opportunity to buy lovely things from one another - thereby raising lots of money for a very good cause. And of course, you can come to Buy, even if you don’t Bring anything! Donations of raffle prizes will also be very much appreciated.

If you’re unable to be there on Friday morning, Gill will be glad to receive donations beforehand at her house, Oakshaw (between Sowdens and Sowdens Orchard), if you ring her first (01424 882774).

The new term of WEA courses will be starting soon. In our own Hall Jackie White’s popular course on Practical Gardening will resume from 11am till 1pm every Friday, starting on October 4 (£79 for 10 meetings).

The other local courses will all be in Rye. In Tilling Green Community Centre, from 1.30pm till 4.30pm the second Thursday of each month, starting on October 10, David Alfred’s course on Burning Issues will involve the group in lively debate on current events (£82.95 for 7 meetings). Also in Tilling Green CC, from 1.30pm till 4.30pm the third Thursday of each month, starting on October 17, Catherine Smith’s course on Creative Writing will be for both new and experienced writers (£82.95 for 7 meetings).

Lastly, David Derrington has proved himself to be a very stimulating course leader, recommended by at least one Udimore resident. His course this term is on Schism Within Abrahamic Religions and will run in Rye Art Gallery, from 10.30am till 12.30pm every Tuesday, starting on October 1 (£79 for 10 meetings).
