Our Udimore Annual Parish Assembly will be held at 6.30m this coming Tuesday, April 30, in St Mary’s Community Hall. This is the important once-a-year opportunity for us all to hear the Parish Council Chairman, Bob Turgoose, giving an account of what our Council has been doing on our behalf - and to raise directly with our East Sussex, Rother and Udimore Parish Councillors any issues about which we’re individually concerned. Incidentally, you’re reminded that two days later our East Sussex Councillor will be contesting his seat on the County Council, in the local government election.

There will also be a talk on the Transition Town Rye initiative by a member of its committee, Mike Slavin. This project aims to build a sustainable future for the whole of our local community, Rye and its surrounding villages.

Please make a point of coming along for what is sure to be a most informative evening. Free refreshments will be provided, and wine will also be available.

By midweek, Spring did at last seem to be well on its way. In view of the steady decline in the numbers of summer migrant birds in the last forty years (turtle doves, their soft purring call such a feature of former years, down by no less than 93%) their arrival this year has been noted with particular interest. Colin and Stella Knight saw their first house martin on April 14, when a pipistrelle bat emerged from hibernation in their porch. The previous day a pair of cuckoos was seen flying over the cycle path into Rye: has anybody heard one calling yet?
