Udimore village voice - March 30

I’ve now heard that the combined total sum raised by the coffee morning in St Mary’s Community Hall on March 17 and another event was an impressive £578. This will go towards the cost of the decorations in the Hall for the community’s celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and the cost of flowers for a festival in the church.

Nadia Florence-Marshall has asked me to include a big thank you to all those who made it possible and worked hard on the day, and to the extra sponsors, whose support is greatly appreciated. It is hoped to have an exhibition of photographs in the church, of celebrations in Udimore in 1953 for the Queen’s Coronation. If you have any photos that you would be prepared to lend for the exhibition, please give Nadia a ring (01424 882948).

Last Thursday, March 22, the coffee morning at Stocks Oast went extremely well, much enjoyed by everyone there (Ann Barker included). Together with the raffle for a lamb generously donated by Sheila and Richard Corke, the event raised £300 for Hall funds. The lamb was won by Nadia.

As this Sunday is Palm Sunday, the monthly Family Service for All will start with a palm-carrying procession from the Hall to the Church, at 11.15am. Refreshments will follow the service, and a social gathering on what looks like being a beautifully sunny morning.

April 3, being the first Tuesday of the month, features a regular monthly morning and afternoon programme in the Hall. Between 10am and noon, the Market Place provides locally sourced and Fair Trade products, with tea or coffee.

And at 4pm the monthly Udimore and Brede Messy Church will have Easter as its theme. One of its organizers, Verity Langrish, tells me that since its inception in October, this has been developing into a popular monthly event. Its aim is to bring adults and children together to experience a fun-filled Christian community outside Sunday worship. It is for all ages: an adult must bring a child, or vice versa. Each meeting has a creative messy activity and sing-song and ends with a shared meal. It sounds fun: do give it a try!

On Wednesday, April 4, the annual general meeting of the Udimore Wildlife Society will be held in the King’s Head, at 7pm.
