UPDATE: Hastings railway station bomb scare '˜false alarm'

The reported bomb scare at Hastings railway station was a '˜false alarm', according to police.

The station was evacuated as a precaution after a member of staff found a handbag on a train at 1.55pm this afternoon (Monday, January 11).

It has now been reopened 20 minutes after the false alarm.

Station staff and police officers viewed the bag and it was established that it was of innocent origin.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were alerted to an incident at Hasting rail station on Monday, January 11, following reports of unattended bag on board a train.

“The call came into police at 1.55pm.

“Colleagues form Sussex Police attended the station and carried out a search.

“The station was temporarily evacuated.

“The package was not deemed to be suspicious.

“The station has now been reopened.”

Train services may be delayed by up to 20 minutes due to the security alert.
