UPDATE: Man arrested on suspicion of arson

Firefighters from Littlehampton, East Preston, Bognor and Worthing responded to an explosion in Fitzalan Road, shortly before 12.50am.

Residents reported hearing a loud explosion coming from the outbuilding behind a flat complex in the street with flames rising more than two metres into the sky.

Fire crews remained at the site for more than eight hours extinguishing the blaze.

This afternoon, a spokeswoman for Sussex Police said a man from Littlehampton was arrested in Surrey in connection with the incident, and is being held in custody.
