Two ambulance crews were sent to the scene, near the town hall, and the road was partially closed while CPR was carried out.

The spokesperson said: “There was already a first aider at the scene, who began CPR. We were grateful for that.

“Our crews continued CPR that proved unsuccessful, and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

The cause of death is unknown at this stage.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the incident is not being treated as a police matter.
