Emergency services were called to the Park Road flat at 3.40pm last Friday (July 12) and discovered the bodies of a 51-year-old man and a woman aged 30.

Detective Inspector Rob Walker of Sussex Police said: “Despite some media reports, we have not found any evidence of the drug crystal meth and no evidence any drug was being produced. This speculation has caused distress to the families of the deceased.

“We are continuing to work with the coroner’s officers to establish a cause of death.

“Due to a concern that there could be a presence of a chemical related to one or both of the bodies and to ensure a safe working environment a hazardous response team from the ambulance service attended the scene on Friday night as part of the investigation.

“This is normal procedure to ensure the safety of the public and emergency staff working inside the premises.

“The property was rechecked and there was no evidence of a noxious substance or pollution within the environment of the flat. No one was evacuated from the surrounding flats.”
