UPDATE: Two hour delays after A27 Chichester crash

A woman has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital after sustaining a serious head injury.

The lorry has jack knifed blocking the road at the Fishbourne roundabout eastbound.

A police spokesman said: “The woman driver of the car has suffered a serious injury and has been flown by the air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital. The lorry driver was not hurt.

“The road is closed eastbound and is not likely to re-open for at least another two hours (4.30pm). It is open westbound but is heavily congested.

“Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.”

The A27 eastbound is closed from the Fishbourne roundabout.

Emergency services are still working at the scene.

UPDATE 4.45pm: A reporter at the scene says it is not possible to get onto the A27 from the Fishbourne roundabout even when heading westbound because of position of the lorry.

New images from the scene appear to show the lorry crossed over the roundabout.
