About 200 pupils from across Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 at the White Meadows Primary School slipped into their tracksuits and shirts to join in with the dance sessions.

Led by Andy Instone, of Buckinghamshire-based dance company Urban Strides, the youngsters and their teachers were put to the test, with Andy getting them all to learn one of three different urban dance styles.

Each year group was taught a specific routine at the day-long event, which culminated in a performance inside the Whitelea Road school’s hall, with all the pupils showing off their newly-acquired skills.

Head of Year 5 Kirsty Porter said the day was tiring, but a fantastic experience for all the children and teachers.

She said: “The children absolutely loved it.

“Andy was such a nice bloke. He was on their level the entire time and was really engaging.

“It was a really good work out for everyone and we all really enjoyed it – especially the teachers.”

Mrs Porter explained the link between the primary and Urban Strides was forged
when White Meadows’ school choir took part
at the Young Voices Concert, at London’s O2 arena, earlier this year, where they first meet Andy and his dance company which was supporting the event.

“The children funded the street dance day
by themselves, raising more than £700 during
a sponsored run around the school’s field,” she added.
