Alongside the traditional top hat, professional musician Tim Bolwell has placed a big quick response (QR) tag for online donations in West Street, Horsham.

Members of the public enjoying a ditty can swipe the code via an app on their smartphone which takes you to Tim’s profile where you have the option to tip.

It forms part of a wider scheme by the The Busking Project.

The 50-year-old from Brighton said there has been interest in the tag - which has been on display for the last two days - but people have yet to donate with it.

He said: “We’re living in a time where people don’t really carry cash around with them - it’s all card.

“If they’re enjoying the music and realise they don’t have 50p to put in the hat they’ve got another way to donate. As we move more and more into the future and people get used to using their phones to scan in shops then this may come into it’s own.”

Tim has been busking for seven years.
