Village divide apparent at plan meeting

MIXED emotions were displayed in a packed Ferring village hall last Tuesday as residents shared their views on the Ferring neighbourhood plan.

Arguments were made for and against the plan, which proposes to demolish the village hall and allotment sites to make way for 24 of 50 new homes as part of Arun District Council’s local plan.

A new multi-purpose community centre would be built before any work started.

Residents were told that voting for the plan would provide them with protection against future housing developments for the duration of the plan, which runs until 2029.

Ferring Parish Councillor, Carole Robertson, chaired the meeting, she said: “It’s really important we have these meetings where everyone can express their opinions. This meeting was far more positive than the first meeting 10 weeks ago.”
