Wayne Thurston, who works at the railway station, said the lack of double yellow lines outside it are causing chaos for motorists and pedestrians.

He claims drivers parking along Station Road are blocking bus stops and obscuring vision for those trying to cross the road.

He is now appealing to West Sussex County Council to install double-yellow lines on the road.

He said: “Does it really take a serious accident before something is done? Because that’s exactly what will happen.”

The Angmering School head teacher David Brixey said he was ‘concerned’ about student safety at the level crossing, adding that parking restrictions there ‘could be an advantage’.A spokesman for the county council said parking was prohibited outside the station by the double white lines.

He added plans were to be considered, later this year, for further parking restrictions, to the north of the station.
