Waldron

STARLIGHT STROLL: You may remember that a group of Waldron residents and friends took part in the Starlight Stroll sponsored walk for St Wilfrid's Hospice in Eastbourne back in September and I promised to let you all know how much was raised. This week I had a letter from Beth Hillier, the events community fundraiser for the Hospice to announce that the sum so far raised by the strollers was a magnificent £40,519.68. This will help support the Hospice in providing care for patients with life-limiting illnesses and support for their families. It's a gratifying result because the 601 walkers all had sponsors who multiplied their efforts, producing an amazing community result. Well done to everyone who took part.

CHRISTMAS FAIR: Our Village Christmas Fair will happen on Saturday December 10 this year, from 10am till 3.30pm, and promises to be as seasonally jolly as ever. Outdoors there’ll be the Christmas market with stalls selling Christmas gifts, mulled wine, the bottle tombola, a pocket-money stall, festive goodies and a super pre-loved toy stall which promises to be hugely popular. If you have any items for the toy stall that you’d like to donate, contact Lizzie Chambers on 01435 812470. Donations of bottles for the bottle tombola will be welcomed by Alison and Robin Bather. Contact them on 01435 810076 or deliver to The Old Farmhouse, Foxhunt Green, or they will collect from you if you’d prefer that. There will also be a Chocolate Tombola, run by Ian Dixon, who is keen to gather together all things chocolate for his stall. Ring him on 01435 813363 to donate chocolate. The pub will as usual offer a full range of food and an outdoor barbecue in the square. Watch out also for tickets to the village pantomime which will be on sale throughout the Fair.

FAMILY SUPPORT: The charity FSW (Family Support Work) will have a stall at the Village Christmas Fair and are wondering if you can help. If you are making jams, preserves, chutneys, mincemeat, biscuits, Christmas puds, pizzas, quiches, truffles and sweets for your own families, could you make an extra one for FSW? If so, please contact Sarah Mackenzie on 01435 866419 or e-mail her on [email protected]. She’d be delighted to hear from you.

You’ll get a letter back with your special ticket and session time. Don’t forget children are also welcome for a fun-filled visit to Santa’s Workshop in the church where they can enjoy creating with glitter, glue, colouring and clay modelling. Parents can chill out with tea, coffee, cake and biscuits while children are making stuff. Mr Pineapple Head will entertain the children from 12.15pm to 1pm.
