It's time for autumn vaccinations and to add to the usual 'Flu and Covid updates there's a new set of initials to learn.

You may have seen news items about the RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccine which protects us against chest and lung infections. However you may be dismayed to find that you are too old to qualify as it's only offered to those in their 70s. Why? After all, it's estimated that there are 14,000 hospitalisations annually for RSV in older adults and surely anything which keeps older people out of hospital must make sense.

We're told that prevention is better than cure when making the best use of scarce NHS resources and as we get older we become more vulnerable, not less. I notice that the United States has amended its recommendations for 2024 giving everyone over 75 the RSV jab. So how about firing up your computers and write to Wes Streeting our new Health Secretary to press for our new Government's policy tio be changed!
