“He looks after a number of elderly and disabled villagers, doing their weekly shopping, tidying up their gardens and bringing them fresh produce from his allotment.

“He’s a keen supporter of the village activities and always first to volunteer his services – a real asset to our neighbourhood.”

Alan added: “Bob came and told me what I won and I had no idea I’d been nominated, I thought it was absolutely wonderful.

“I don’t really see what I do as helping people, I enjoy it! I think it’s the talking to people who are on their own that really makes a difference.”
