Warren is made new policecommander for Rye area

He has moved to Rother from Sussex Police HQ, Lewes, where his previous role was force lead for neighbourhood policing.

In his 18-years with the force, he has worked predominantly in Hastings and Rother including as an inspector for Battle and Rye. As a resident of Rother, he has first hand knowledge of the area.

His other previous roles have been spent in response, proactive, performance improvement and neighbourhood policing.

He said: “Most recently I have had some really interesting roles and have been lucky to have had involvement in force and national projects and worked on some excellent partnership work.

“My last role included projects such as Body Worn Video implementation for Sussex Police, Specials, accreditation and volunteers”.

He also leads on business crime reduction and engagement for the force and is heavily involved in race equality work.

“My focus is to keep Rother a safe place to live, work in and visit. I’m a great believer in working with partners to tackle and reduce crime and the community are one of the most important partners we have in passing us information and acting as our eyes and ears.

“My teams will focus on the key challenges of catching criminals and reducing repeat offences and we will use whatever tools and partnerships we have available to achieve this.”

Chief Insp Franklin is married with children, who also attend local schools.

He said: “There is not much free time, but I do love my history and a good book and when I can I still play five-a-side football to remind me of when I could play properly.

“Becoming district commander for Rother is an honour and being a police officer is about service to the community and keeping that community from harm.”

Rye’s Neighbourhood Policing team still has Sergeant Warren Downs at its helm.

Rye’s Neighbourhood Policing Panel has set out three priorities for the town.

These are high visibility foot patrols at Tilling Green to deal with any anti-social behaviour; speeding and road safety and drugs enforcement and youth engagement.

PCSO Sharon Eldridge said: “The Amicus Horizon anti-social behaviour team has been invited to the next meeting.

“There have been problems with a few people on the estate who all know each other.

“Things are improving and it is now coming together.”
