We loved and lost them to drugs evil

BEN Shannon was 31 when drugs murdered him. He was a much-loved free spirit who, according to his family, "flew too close to the sun".

The happy, smartly-dressed man on the right is Ben at his brother's wedding. A week after the picture was taken, he was dead.

Ben, of Pines Avenue, Broadwater, had difficulty in dealing with the harsh realities of life, his mother said this week.

And he kept the extent of his drug abuse secret from those closest to him.

Clair Brazier, described as "caring and giving" by those who loved her, was 28. She died at her flat in Meadow Road, East Worthing, after taking a cocktail of drugs over Christmas.

An inquest heard her arms were covered in green and yellow scars caused by syringes and her whole body was poisoned by drugs.

The heartbroken mothers of both victims spoke lovingly of the youngsters taken away by their all-consuming addiction.

The message was clear: For God's sake, look at the pictures of our beautiful, lost children. And don't let this happen to you.

Please see this week's Worthing Herald for Ben and Clair's stories.
