But has it dampened our spirits - or our enthusiasm - for the weeks ahead? Not a bit of it!

The heart of summer is upon us in 1066 Country, kicking off this past weekend with the iconic Vulcan flying over Rye and Battle’s Big Weekend in a week’s time.

And this week, we expect to hear whether 1066 country has been short-listed in its bid for “City of Culture status.

All of this - and much more - will be reflected in our ‘Summer of Love’ campaign.

As we said last week, the days are getting longer, the sun is shining and the UK economy is showing its first signs of recovery.

We know what a strong sense of community we have in 1066 country and we want to reflect that new mood of optimism.

And here’s your first chance to get involved.

Next Friday, June 21, is the Summer Solstice - the longest day. We want to capture a day in the life of 1066 Country; a snapshot of how our community is living and enjoying life to the full.

Effectively, we want you to stop the clock and capture what you are doing. At work, at play, with friends, with children, with your pets, or alone enjoying some freedom from life’s hustle and bustle.

Maybe it’s your wedding day, your anniversary, the day you propose to your partner, the day your baby is born, or your child celebrates his or her birthday. Or just an ordinary Friday.

Maybe you’ll be at work with colleagues. Maybe you’ll be at home with friends. Maybe at a barbecue (if the weather’s good enough), enjoying the coast or some of our wonderful attractions, or simply the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, whoever you are with, send us your snapshots. Email these to [email protected], putting ‘One Moment in Time’ and we will do our best to use as many as possible in print and on our website.

We also want your videos.

Capture just 10 seconds of your day on Friday, June 21, and send us your clip.

Anything that grabs your attention and that you feel reflects one summer’s day in 1066 country.

One clip per person, please, and no longer than ten seconds. Please include your name on the email and send it to
[email protected]

Our aim is to produce a video compilation of clips - reflecting our area and its people at one moment in time, on one summer’s day.

And we will share the completed video with you.

In brief, let’s Love Summer and have some fun!
