Severe weather warning from West Sussex County Council for Wednesday, August 17: flooding of homes and businesses 'likely'

The council has made an announcement this morning on its website, saying that heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected for the area, which could lead to flooding and disruption.
“The Met Office has issued an Amber warning of thunderstorm affecting West Sussex from 11am to 10pm,” said a WSCC spokesperson.

Hide AdThe county council urged people to take care of themselves, as well as their family and neighbours, especially if they are elderly or vulnerable.
They also explained what the Met Office has warned residents to expect:
“Flooding of homes and businesses is likely and could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
“Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life.

Hide Ad“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely.
“Spray and sudden flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
“Some communities likely to become cut off if roads flood.
“Power cuts likely to occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.”

There has already been some flooding in the area with Muster Green in Haywards Heath affected.
