We're all sizzling in the sunshine

Sizzling Bognor Regis saw the temperature near 90F this week.

Endless blue skies sent the thermometer soaring to a peak of 30.5C on Sunday to make it the hottest day of the year so far.

Monday was marginally cooler at 26C and the scorching conditions continued on Tuesday.

Among those lapping up the sun on Tuesday were Doreen and Len Scottow.

The residents of the High Street made the short walk to make the most of the heatwave.

Mrs Scottow, 80, said: "It's absolutely wonderful. We try to come down here for at least a couple of hours every day. It was very busy at the weekend, but it was still good."

Mr Scottow, 79, added: "It's great watching everyone enjoy themselves and seeing the world go by."

Last weekend saw 31 hours of sunshine enjoyed by beachgoers who packed the promenade and foreshore.

Promenade business owner Darrell Hardy said conditions were the best he had experienced for the early summer in the past 30 years.

"Last weekend was as busy as I've known the seafront in May. It was probably busier than the whole of last August.

"The weather has really cheered people up. Until then, they were all moaning about the credit crunch," he added.

The good weather led to 38 jet skis and six boats being launched from the Gloucester Road ramp on Sunday.

An average weekend would see ten to 20 jet skis put on the water.

With the prestigious blue flag flying over the seafront, the signs look good for a summer to remember.
