West End quality performance by Durrington High

They came away with eight awards of excellence, for choreography, stage use, concept, soundtrack, set design and function, entertainment, lighting and video performance, but were not placed in the top five.

Twelve schools from across seven southern counties competed at Portsmouth Guildhall in front of a large audience.

Baroness Ruth Henig, patron of the Be Your Best Foundation, said: “It was an absolutely fantastic evening and really all the performances I think put the West End of London to shame it was absolutely brilliant. For me, there were 12 winners.”

The aim of the Be Your Best Foundation is to encourage young people to lead healthy lifestyles and be their best without the need for tobacco, alcohol or other drugs.

Duncan Tuffrey from Ansvar Insurance, which supported the competition, said: “It has been a fantastic evening to see so many schools get excited in front of so many people on a proper professional stage.

“Just to see the way they’ve embraced the ethic of Rock Challenge is just so exciting and restores your faith in young people.”
