Westfield's Christmas lights: were switched on last week, and the hard work of the residents involved has resulted in a magical welcome as you come through the village. Do not miss the lights in Geary Place and the bottom of Churchfield either. Volunteers have been collecting donations for St. Michael's Hospice each evening, so please give generously when you come to admire the decorations. The WCA Carols round the tree takes place tonight at 7pm at CorbiÃ¨res, next to the village sign. Come and enjoy community carols with music provided by Westfield musicians, followed by home-made soup.

The Christmas Tree Festival: starts next week on December 17 in the church. This year’s theme is Christmas Feasts, and the money raised there will be added to the Hospice collection.

Sunday sees an ‘instant’ nativity: at 10am in the church. This is a family friendly service, and everyone is welcome. No rehearsal is needed! The traditional Carols by Candlelight service is at 6pm on Sunday, followed by seasonal refreshments. Every house in the village should have received a church Christmas card with details of service, and there are spare copies in church. There are Christingle services at 4pm and 6pm on Christmas Eve, followed by the First Communion of Christmas at 11pm. The Family Service on Christmas day is at 10.30am.

Congratulations to Patrick: and his staff at ‘The New Inn’. They have just been awarded second place in the ‘Observer’ Pub of the Year competition. Well deserved!
