The Friendship Club had a lovely summer outing with a strawberry tea and a look around the Toy Museum at Northiam. Our hosts were Phil and Kathy, who made us very welcome. The club is now having its summer break and will return on Monday September 16 with some more outings to look forward to.

Meetings are at the Parish Hall 2pm every other Monday.Future dates 16th, 30th September, October 14th 28th, November 11th 25th with our Christmas party on 9th December.

Do you use the bus service? East Sussex need your views, and is carrying out a whole county consultation out at present which concerns the future of all supported bus services in East Sussex. The consultation is available at https://consultation.eastsussex.gov.uk/economy-transport-environment/supportedbuses. You can also pick up a form on your local bus or by contacting the Highways Contact Centre on 0345 60 80 193. The consultation ends on 17 August.

If you can help Westfield Football Club in any way please contact the club. They are presently putting things in place to ensure both local football opportunities at all levels & for all ages with the 1st team playing in Senior Football. Therefore if you would like to offer one off or ongoing support, both on & off the pitch, before during or after games please get in touch with the Secretary on [email protected]

Westfield Golf Fellowship. Their last planned event was on July 22nd – The Captains Bucket – at Seddlescombe GC was won by Ben Bandit with Chris Smith runner up. For more information please contact [email protected]

The Youth Club offers a great time. It runs on Wednesdays from 6.30-8pm. You need to be a member, so contact Dan 07899917952 to register.

The F3 women’s group had a most interesting talk about ‘Lotions and Potions’ last week, when Jackie Saull-Hunt explained how common plants and herbs are used in natural remedies. They also heard more about the St Michael’s Hospice Neighbours campaign publicised in the village earlier in the year. This scheme is looking for people to volunteer their time by giving a few hours a week, fortnight or month on a day and time that suits them, within their local area, to help with everyday tasks such as putting out the washing, walking the dog, cooking and daily chores – or just chatting over a cuppa. Sainsbury’s vouchers for Westfield School can be dropped into Westfield Newsagents where Richard & Dan will happily collect them from you.

The Westfield Hub meets at The Plough on Fridays from 10am to 12noon. A warm and friendly welcome and a decent cup of tea/coffee are assured at the Hub every Friday morning between 10am and 12noon.’

Rye and District (inc Westfield) Lions. Representatives from Lions Clubs across the south-east met at Redhill Aerodrome on Saturday 20th July to present their next major donation of £150,000 towards their target of £250,000 towards the introduction of night flying operations. The new MD902 Explorer helicopter and crew joined with Adrian Bell, CEO of the Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, in demonstrating the new night flying crew helmets and night flying equipment.In accepting this major donation, Adrian went on to say: “ The Lions are amazing partners for the charity and have shown considerable fortitude, enthusiasm and imagination in raising this funding in just over a year. The equipment we are now able to purchase is an integral part of saving peoples lives and I cannot than the Lions enough, they are outstanding.” Lion Howard Lee, Chairman of the South-East District Lions Night Flying Appeal said: “The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance delivers advanced pre-hospital care to the scene of serious medical emergencies, usually only found in the resuscitation area of a hospital’s emergency department. This is totally in line with the Lions objectives, one of which is to bring aid to those in distress, and we are delighted to partner with the charity as it works towards extending its service to cover both day and night.” Lions Clubs across Kent, Surrey and Sussex will be continuing to raise funds for additional essential specialist equipment. Lions Clubs are dedicated to assisting their communities and to helping to save lives.

The Lions are putting together the finishing touches to the arrangements for the Annual Rye Raft Race and Fete, which Rye Lions have organised for 35 years. This year it takes place on the Bank Holiday Sunday, 25 August, with the fete opening at noon and the raft race starting at 2.30pm with rafts assembling from 1pm. There has been considerable interest from groups wishing to compete this year. There is still time to enter a raft and anyone interested should contact Bob Harvey on 01424 751059. Stall space at the Fete is almost full, but if any organisation wishes to fill the last few spaces they should contact Reg Emson on 01797 224174 as soon as possible.Rye and District Association of the National Trust. On Wednesday 11 September – Navigating the Wey in Surrey. In the company of a friendly and informative guide we will explore the old Surrey iron villages, visit Guildford, enjoy a cruise on the River Wey Navigation and stop for tea at the beautiful stately home where the Queen Mother spent her honeymoon. Price: £36 per person (all refreshments are at own expense). All outings are subject to a minimum number participating and if we do not reach this figure outings have to be cancelled and members are disappointed. There is an exhibition of photographs by Dr Douglas Moss, of the churches of Romney Marsh at the St Mary’s Centre, Lion Street, Rye from August 5 to the 10. Entrance is free and the hall is open from 10am – 4pm.
