Lions Aid Uganda. Rye and District Lions were pleased to host an illustrated talk about a charitable initiative in Uganda. Last year Rye Lions made a donation to Natasha Winton of Northiam towards her planned visit to Uganda. Natasha, together with Sarah Wiltshire and a total of twelve students from the sixth form at Homewood School travelled to Uganda. Each student was tasked with raising £1,700 themselves to fund their visit.Natasha and Sarah told the Lions of their work whilst in Uganda with the WATOTO charity. They worked with orphaned children, many of whose parents had died from Aids and also visited baby homes. They also visited the Living Hope Centre which has been established for women that had been badly and deliberately mutilated in various conflicts in the country. They were also involved in the building of a Community Centre. Whilst the majority of the donations made by Rye Lions go to local charities and good causes, they are pleased to assist young people such as Natasha when they are devoting time and money to help others further afield. They also recently made a similar donation to Nick White, son of Northiam’s Rector, Rod White, towards a visit to Malawi and he also had to raise £800 himself.
