Services at the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist on Sunday, August 19 are Holy Communion (1662) at 8.00 am, Nine Thirty Start (all-age worship) at 9.30am and Parish Eucharist at 10.30 am.

There will be Holy Communion as usual at 9.30am on Wednesday.

There will be a barbecue following the Family Service next Sunday, August 26, followed by an afternoon of crafts. The cost is £6, and you need to sign the list in church if you are coming.

Many organisations are taking a break during August, so there are few organised events to report. Sadly, there has been an outbreak of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage, usually in the late evenings. Please report any incidents to the local Battle Neighbourhood Policing Team on the 101 non-emergency number (Ext. 65202) or Mobile 0778 7685723. Parents – do you know where your children are and what they are doing?

By all accounts, the Westfield Free Fun Day on August 6 was a runaway success. The weather was perfect, and everyone enjoyed a fantastic day with a climbing wall, crafts, mini-golf, bouncy castle and a bungee run. Thank you to Dan, Min and the other organisers..

The WCA Hall is available for booking during the school holiday. Book through the Manager, Rachel Pritchard, on 01424 754446. There is a new ‘Legs, Bums and Tums’ class there on Mondays from 7.15-8.15pm. Ring 07849 819612 for more information. There is also a new street dance class; details from Rachel.

The Westfield Parent and Toddler Group would like more families to join it on Friday afternoons from 7 September (term time only) from 1.15-3pm in the Parish Hall, apart from the 3rd Friday in the month when the Hall is not available.  The Health Visitor visits the Toddler Group on the 1st Friday of each month, and also during school holidays, and the Toy Library attends fortnightly. Westfield Football Club is holding a fun day on the Parish Field on August 19 from 11am, with the usual stalls, displays, and bouncy castle. The Human Table Football invites teams of six at £20 per team; contact [email protected] or call 01424 756339 (evenings) to enter.

The Westfield Hub now meets at ‘The Plough’ on Fridays from 10am-12 noon for coffee, chat, book exchange and use of computers. The Hub is holding an indoor/outdoor Boot Sale in the Community Dining Hall and car park on Saturday, August 25. An opportunity to sell all those surplus bits & bobs in your attic and garage! While you are turning out for the Boot Sale, please also note that there will be another Jumble Sale organized by the friends of Wendy Pemberton in her memory. This will be on Saturday, September 15 at 2pm in Westfield Community Hall, with the proceeds going to myeloma research.

Battle Area Community Transport have confirmed that passengers do not have to book a seat for the Wednesday service from Westfield to Sainsbury’s. They only have to ring if they want to book the flexi services going to Tunbridge Wells, Rye, Tenterden, etc. The normal bus service on Wednesday at 11.12am is boarded just by waiting at the stop.
