HELLO: What a beautiful weekend. We joined our neighbours in Mountfield for their Wealden Walk. This was a very interesting walk in glorious sunshine through stunning bluebell woods and pastures. Our thanks to Peter Miles for his fascinating commentary and for giving us an insight into our local landscape and ancestors. Who would have thought there was so much going on in Medieval and Tudor times and that it is still visible in the landscape if you know what you are looking for?

PARISH COUNCIL: The next meeting of the parish council is on Thursday 19 May at 7.30 pm in the village hall. This will be the Annual Meeting of the council where the Chairman and Vice Chairman are elected for the coming year. Two councillors will be appointed as the representatives to the Rother Association of Local Councils.

The Open Session will be as usual from 7.30 pm – 7.50 pm. The agenda for the meeting is on the council notice board on the bus shelter by the Royal Oak.

VILLAGE HALL: Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Twilight Serenade on Saturday 28 May from Annette McBride 01424 871629.

WHATLINGTON REMEMBERS EVENING: the crew and families of airmen from 2 US planes which crashed during World War 2 in Whatlington have been invited to the next Whatlington Remembers Evening at the Royal Oak on Wednesday June 8 at 7.30 pm. This is almost 76 years to the day of the actual crash. Tickets are essential and these can be booked for £5 by ringing the Royal Oak on 01424 870492.

PARISH CHURCH NEWS: The church service at Whatlington will be at 9.30 am this coming Sunday, 15th May and is a Parish Communion.

The church now has the long awaited brass commemorative plaque installed to record its restoration following the fire of 2010, the new plaque is of the same size as that recording the restoration of 1862 and is mounted just below it.

Looking ahead a week to May 22nd, we will be holding an evening Songs of Praise for Spring service at 6 pm. This will celebrate the wonders of creation, now so evident in all the coming flowers and greenery and will comprise favourite well know hymns interspersed with suitable readings, both Biblical and poetical. A fine evening is booked and we hope that people will come and join us for what will be a lovely service.
