Village Hall: The Village Hall committee met again on June 17th. All those present were very pleased with the recent redecorations and the improvements to the electrical installations. Further plans for refurbishment were high on the agenda, including new curtains, improved storage for the tables, and a complete overhaul of the toilets. However, the Treasurer pointed out that these continued improvements would have to await further funds being available. In this context, Chairman Annette McBride told the meeting that an application had now been made to Rother District Council for a grant to match the sum that had been allocated to the recent work on the roof and on the electrical installations. Although such grants were not normally allowed for retrospective claims, our own situation had been unusual, in that the application had been quite ready to forward to the Council back in January, but had unfortunately been delayed by the Chairman’s sudden illness and admission to hospital at that very time. The application would otherwise have been in well before the works had started. In these circumstances she had been advised by Councillor Eleanor Kirby-Green, who has been most helpful in her support of our claim, that there was a good chance that the application could still be considered. We therefore await the result of Rother’s next grants committee meeting in early July.
