Traditional Village Fête: Don’t forget that this Saturday, August 30th, there’s a lot of festive fun lined up for the whole family, to round off the holidays! The traditional and much-loved Whatlington Village Fête will commence at 1.30 pm in the field next to the Village Hall Car Park; please park carefully and as directed as the car park itself will fill up quickly. For your refreshment, there will be a barbecue offering burgers and hot dogs; a bar serving beer, lager and soft drinks; and delicious teas provided by the Church (see below) which will also be selling cakes and other items. A large selection of games for both children and adults will be available, such as Hoopla, Splat the Rat, a Coconut Shy, a Plate Smashing stall, Guess the Name of the Teddy, Find the Magic Key (which unlocks a bottle of Champagne: or a more suitable gift if a child wins!), a Bottle Bola and a Treasure Map, plus several more. Then there are also stalls selling Books and CDs, Bric-à-Brac, Plants and Produce, Savoury items such as quiches, tarts and cheese scones; and one for all things magical, for any student Witches or Wizards. Don’t forget the ever-popular Tractor Rides and Pony Rides, not to mention a display of Vintage Cars! Finally, there will be a game of Stool Ball - one for the children, and one for adults - kicking off around 3.00 and 4.00 pm respectively. As I write, the weather forecast looks much brighter than the Bank Holiday (admittedly, it could hardly be worse) so do come along, bringing family and friends, and join the fun!
