St Mary Magdalene church service on Sunday 17th March will be a Holy Communion at 8.30am in the village hall.Thank you to Hilda Aplin for the following.

“The Parish Church held their annual Mothering Sunday service last week in the village hall and 28 people helped us celebrate this special day. In fact we welcomed for the first time, a father and his son to the service and what a joy it was to have more children attending. As you maybe aware, our family service has now changed its name to “All Age Worship”. Why this name? We want it to be family orientated, so that families are made welcome but we also want to be able to offer a service where everyone irrespective of age is welcomed….old & young worshipping together; what a glorious celebrations we can make! When we return back to our church it is our aim to have a table at the back of the church for the children to sit down at and maybe read or draw or just play. We will not glare at your child if it is noisy. We want you to be able to bring your children to church and be comfortable in the knowledge that your child is welcome there.. There is a place in our church for everyone….you included!

At the Mothering Day Service, taken by Jacqueline, whom I must say thank you to, for such a special service, bunches of daffodils were handed out to everyone by courtesy of Jempson`s who kindly donated the flowers. Jacqueline also brought some flowers herself, which were placed in a basket for everyone to take one to say thank you to their mother’s and to remember them on this special day, or to remember a person whom had been like a mother to them; for some it was in remembrance of their mother’s. During one of the hymns the flowers, one by one, were then placed in oasis to form a lovely floral display, a visible way of thanking God for our mother’s unconditional love.Thank you Valerie for placing the flowers so beautifully.Last but not least I must thank Jeffrey for making the tea & coffee with a little aid from Rosalind….a lovely cuppa Jeffrey!”

The next Film Club night is Friday 22nd March when we’ll be showing the romantic comedy “Hope Springs” from 8pm in The Barn.

Irish Music Night is on Friday 29th March from 8.30pm - come along to hear this unique “jamming style “session of live music from some of the most talented musicians in the area.

Quiz Night is every Thursday evening at The Royal Oak from 8pm for teams of up to six people.

The next Village Hall Jumble Sale is this Saturday 16th March, bargains available when doors open at 10am. If you have jumble to donate, please drop off at the pub or call Angie on 01424 870087.

Rock n Roll Night in the Village Hall is coming up on Saturday 30th March from 8pm, and will be a brilliant evening with DJ, dancing and a light supper for £10 per ticket. With proceeds going to the Village Hall, if you would like a ticket please contact Angie on 01424 870087.

The Whatlington Annual Parish Assembly takes place next Thursday 21st March in the village hall starting at 7.00pm. This year we have two speakers Myles Robinson and Sarah Tyler from the Environment Agency who will be giving a short talk on the local area and the River Line. This will be of interest to all those living in the parish. There will also be reports from the parish council Chairman, our County & District Councillors, our PCSO, Mountfield and Whatlington School and local groups. The March council meeting will follow the Assembly.
