News from Alex at The Royal Oak:

Tonight is Irish Music Night at The Royal Oak, when our regular group of talented musicians will gather at the pub for an uplifting session of Traditional Irish Tunes. Music starts at 8.30pm, admission is free, and booking is advisable if you would like to come and eat, please call on 01424 870492.

We had a fabulous weekend at The Royal Oak - the Hallowe’en Party was excellent with some intricate and well-thought out costumes, photos are on our Facebook Page - so check those out! Thanks to Debbie for organising the evening and DJ’ing for the night! The scary weekend continued with a Film Club showing of the Woman in Black - with an authentic appearance by a Woman in Black (aka Debbie) which gave the audience (particularly Wendy) a fright!! The next film to be shown will be Midnight in Paris on Friday 16th November, for further Film Club details, please email [email protected].

We were proud to host an evening of entertainment for the Royal British Legion, organised by Ian Cheverills last Saturday night which coincided with the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal. If you haven’t got your poppy yet, then please pop into the pub to collect one - we have all sorts of Poppy merchandise - pin badges, car stickers, tax disc holders and more - come and make your donation to this important worthy cause.

The Village Hall Jumble Sale held last Saturday was another great success with over £100 being made in the first half hour! Well done and thank you to Angie, Ken and Wendy for all their commitment and help which make these events possible. Every little bit of fundraising helps to keep our community Village Hall going, so if you have any ideas for fund raising events, please call Angie on 01424 870087, and for bookings contact Ken on 01424 772997.

A band of merry walkers donned their boots and trudged round the beautiful countryside (in the mist and fog!) on Tuesday last week, culminating in a hearty lunch at The Eight Bells in Jevington. If you might be interested in joining us for a few local walks and pub lunches (the walking bit is optional!!), then please contact Alex on 01424 870492 and we will organise some more get-togethers!

The Royal Oak Christmas Cards are now for sale at the pub - the cards depict our beautiful village pub in the snow and are just £2 for 5 cards, with 25% of that going directly to St Michael’s Hospice.
