Wheelchair football comes to Bexhill Leisure Centre

Freedom Leisure is working with Brighton and Hove Albion to bring weekly wheelchair football sessions to Bexhill.

The aim is to give local wheelchair users increased access to leisure activities on a more regular basis.

Jonathan Hart, who is the East Sussex disability football development officer for Brighton and Hove Albion in the Community, said: “This is another big step for us in East Sussex.

“It’s a fantastic chance for young people and adults with disabilities to have the same opportunities that are available through the project in Brighton and West Sussex.

“I’m looking forward to seeing lots of people on Monday evenings and have the chance to work on their football skills.”

Centre manager Ross Phillipson commented: “With national and regional wheelchair football leagues being run up and down the country, the game is becoming more and more popular.

“Brighton and Hove Albion in the Community, and Freedom Leisure, hope to see players of all abilities at these friendly weekly sessions. The sessions will be a fun way to get active, meet new friends and improve ball skills.”

The first session went well, with a number of people coming along to participate and fun was had by all.

The session was also attended by Adrian Gaylon, the Rother District Council sports development officer. The sessions run every Monday evening from 5pm-6pm at a cost of £3 per session.
