Will no-one come to the Mayors Ball?

The talented Fairhurst family not only includes a Town Mayor who is an artist, model-maker and creator of a world record-beating electric car but a daughter who a deft needle-woman.

Peter and Valery Fairhurst's daughter Maria has made miniature mayor and mayoress figures to be auctioned at the ball.

Sawdust-filled Teddy Mayor and Teddy Mayoress have been crafted on traditional teddy bear lines.

But Teddy Mayor also sports spectacles, red robe and tricorn hat plus, of course, the chain of office.

Teddy Mayoress is a dark, full-length gown with bolero jacket and topped with a feathered-hat.

Cllr Fairhurst says: "They are beautiful, they really are. They will be seated in a little quarter-scale mayoral car that I have made. This sort of thing usually fetches a lot of money at auction.

"Maria has put a lot of hours of work into them."
