WILLIAMSON'S WEEKLY NATURE NOTES

NATURE soon bounces back if you give it a chance. Just look at these two field edges I photographed near my home last month.

For the 40 years I've known them they've both been food factories, with little or no interest from the point of view of wild flowers or any other wildlife.

I have no idea to which government-backed wildlife scheme they belong. There are so many, for example EAB, or Enhancing Arable Biodiversity, that comes under Saffie, or Sustainable Arable Farming For an Improved Environment.

These all help to keep the army of new naturalists safely inside their 4x4 cabs and with ties around their necks as they probe the landscape for new acronyms to keep the electorate safely in their urban coops.

To you and me, who weren't born yesterday, we know that nature wasn't either.
