Don’t forget that Winchelsea Conservation Society holds its Annual General Meeting tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 am in the Lower Court Hall. Chairman John Spencer invites as many members as possible to attend as there are a number of topics to discuss. After the meeting refreshments will be served.

Admiral Nurses are qualified in dementia care and their role is to help family carers and people with dementia to live well with this condition. Dementia UK is a charity committed to establishing an Admiral Nursing Service in East Sussex and to date they have placed a new Dementia Pioneer in this county to raise the profile of Admiral Nursing. If you would like to find out more about this charity and make a donation please come along to the 10.30 am Eucharist service on Sunday 28th April in St Thomas’s Church. This will be promoted by Angela Hill and a display on the charity will be at the back of the church.

This Sunday, 28th April, The House of Bernarda Alba will be performed in St Thomas’s Church at both 3 pm and 7 pm, by students of Kent College. Included in the cast are two members of the National Youth Theatre and the play will be directed by Nigel Ashton. Tickets are £10 each and are available from Winchelsea Post Office this morning (Friday) up to 12.30 pm. Refreshments are included in the price and the proceeds will go towards Church funds.

A change of books can be made this week when the Mobile Library comes to Castle Street on Wednesday 1st May. The Library will be at the usual time of 1.40 to 2.10 pm.

A concert has been arranged by Winchelsea Bonfire Boyes entitled Haunting Folk, with musicians Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin. Their music is influenced by English folk songs, Indian classical and American blues to create an enthralling, hypnotic sound and instruments used include slides guitars, fiddle and banjo. Among their many venues, they have played in Nashville, Tennessee and Glastonbury Festival and regularly play at folk festivals. This performance will take place on Thursday 2nd May at 7 pm in St Thomas’s Church and the tickets are £10 each at the door.

Winchelsea Archaeological Society is holding a Cellar Tour next Sunday 4th May at 2 pm. Please meet at the Town Well in Castle Street for the Tour which costs £5 p.p. and lasts around 90 minutes. Winchelsea Garden Society has arranged a visit to the Beth Chatto Gardens on Wednesday 15th May. The Gardens are situated four miles east of Colchester and the journey will be by coach leaving the Town Sign at 9 am and returning by around 6.30 pm. There is a tea room in the gardens that serves light lunches. In 1960 Beth Chatto began transforming overgrown wasteland with poor gravel soil into gardens that now show the art of planting at its best. Included in her gardening creation are the Water Gardens, the Scree Beds, Gravel Garden and Woodland. If you are able to come along do so as there is the likelihood that this is the last year these beautiful gardens will be regularly open to the public. Tickets are £24 per person and are now on sale at Winchelsea Post Office which is open Monday to Friday mornings only, closing at 12.30 pm.

There will be a talk in St Thomas’s Church concerning Edward III, The Man and his Might which will be given by Professor Mark Ormrod from the University of York. This event will be held on Thursday 16th May at 7 pm. The tickets are £7 each and can be purchased on the door or at Winchelsea Post Office.

Winchelsea Beach

The Get Together for Winchelsea Beach residents is tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 pm in the Community Hall. This is an opportunity for as many people of all ages to come along and share their views and ideas for the village. Wine and nibbles will be available during the afternoon.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has organised a Wild Woodland Weekend Club that meets on the last Saturday every the month. This Club is for outdoor explorers aged 6 – 11 and the next session is tomorrow 27th April at 10 am to 1 pm in private woodland in Beckley, meeting at Swallowtail Hill Farm. Activities include den building, campfire cooking, woodland crafts and games. The cost is £10 per child and bookings can be made by ringing 0845 337 2948 or emailing: [email protected]

There will be a visit from the Mobile Library to Sea Road this Wednesday 1st May. It will be at the usual time from 11.55 am to 12.30 pm before moving on to its next stop in Castle Street.
