Wings Appeal in Bexhill

Wings Appeal collectors hit the streets on Saturday to do their best for the Royal Air Force Association charity.

Local branch Ken Igglesden said: "This is a big day for us - it is our main collection day."

Among the volunteers working in shifts of one or two hours was Bexhill MP Greg Barker, accompanied by eight year old son Harry, who went on to do a street collection in Battle as well.

Greg said: "I think the RAFA Bexhill branch was the very first local charity that I got to know when I was first elected. It has been dear to my heart ever since. The commitment of the veterans who served in the second world war is amazing, but also the reminder that many of our armed service men and women are still on active duty sixty-four years later, and the RAFA is as much needed now as it was back then."

Also helping out with Wings Day collection were the youngsters of 2262 Squadron Air Training Corps led by their commanding officer Flight Lieutenant Andy Izzard.

Ken commented: "They did a brilliant job for us - they didn't finish until nearly 4pm in the afternoon."
