Woman, 51, dies on Amberley rail crossing

A MIDDLE-AGED woman died after being hit by a train on the Arun Valley line at Amberley on Sunday (October 4).

The 51-year-old woman, from Petworth, was struck by the train on the Amberley Castle footpath crossing.

British Transport Police, Sussex Police and ambulance service paramedics went to the scene of the accident after it was reported at 1.26pm.

The line was handed back to Network Rail at 3.06pm, for services to resume.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said the incident was being treated as "non-suspicious" and a file would be prepared for the coroner.
